Chapter 1

The Train Ride

I walked away from my parents, and as I bordered the train, they called out, "Bye Valeri, dear. See you next summer."

At those words, I wanted to disapear.

I searched around for a empty compartment, but all I could find was one that was practicaly deserted, except for a black haired boy with strikingly green eyes. I sat down in it, and said, "Hey, my name is Valeri Smuffin. And you are?"

He looked at me, full schock on his face. "You don't know who I am?" he asked me, his green eyes piercing through me. I felt as if I was on fire for a second.

"Why, am I supposed to?" I asked. He was starting to hurt me, maybe he didn't want to be friends. Why did this have to be so hard. Let me explain something, I am not wizard-born, but I am Muggle-born. I had absolutely no idea that I was a wizard until exactly two months ago when I got an owl who gave me my exceptance letter to a place called Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I, of course, had no idea what a wizard was, and neither did my mom or dad. I didn't have to think about that for long though, because about a second after I had read my letter, a man who proposed to be Proffesor Dumbledore, appeared out of thin air, and I litterally mean that, one second, it was just me, my parents, and the owl in the room, and then a man with long white hair, and a long white beard appeared in the room. He explained to me that I was a wizard, and that I would be attending Hogwarts. He then offered to take me to Diagon Alley. I got all my stuff there, and here I am, I guess.

I stared back at the green eyed boy, and waited for him to tell me his name. When it became clear that I had no idea who he was, he lifted his hair, I don't know why, well at least I didn't until I saw the lightning bolt scar under there. I think he thought this would tell me who he was, but I still had no idea.

Just then, a red headed boy walked in. He stared at the green-eyed boy, who still had his hair pulled up, and his scar was still visible on his forehead. "Blimey, you're Harry Potter. Fred and George were serious when they said you were. I thought it was just another one of their jokes. They pull things like that all the time. Oh, by the way, I'm Ron Weasley." Harry shrugged at all of this as if to say that it was all true.

Then Ron looked at me. "Hey, I'm Valeri Smuffin," I introduced myself.

"Cool. First year at Hogwarts?" He asked.

"Yep," I answered shyly. I have never had so many boys talking to me at once, and I truthfully was scared.

"Mine to, and Harry's." Ron told me.

"Um, how did you know who Harry was so quickly?" I nervously questioned Ron.

"You don't know who Harry Potter is?" Ron asked skeptically.

"Never even heard of the name until today."

"Well, obviously you're Muggle-born, like I thought I was for a long time. Anyways, I'm famous because I somehow destroyed this dark wizard named Voldermort," Harry started explaining to me.

Ron looked shocked at the mention of Voldermort's name, and said, "Don't say the name. It's You-know-who. Please, you two might have grown up with Muggles, and might not realize how scary the name is, but I didn't and I do. You don't know the kind of damage You-Know-Who inflicted on us wizards."

"Sorry, see I don't know these things." Harry said. Neither do I, I thought.

Then a boy walked in the compartment, and asked, "Has anyone seen a toad? I lost him."

"No," Ron, Harry, and I all said together. The boy left, obviously crestfallen. A little bit after that a girl came in with bushy hair, and a bit big front teeth. The boy who had lost his toad was with her.

"Has anyone seen Neville's toad?" she asked.

"He's already came and asked us that." Ron said, a bit bitterly.

"Oh, well, I'm Hermione Granger. I didn't know I was even a wizard untill I got my acceptance letter to Hogwarts." Hermione said.

Huh, I thought. Well that makes us have even more in common then anyone else here.

"Anyways," Hermione continued, "who are you?"

"I'm Ron Weasley."

"I'm Valeri Smuffin."

"I'm Harry Potter."

"Oh really? I've read a lot about you." Then Hermione and Neville left.

"Finally, piece and quiet," Ron mumbled when they left.

Of course that was destroyed when a extremely blond boy walked into the compartment. "I heard Harry Potter was sitting in this compartment."

Harry lifted his hand meekly, and I didn't want to listen to someone else say that Harry was oh so famous and that, so I blocked it all out. Soon the blond haired boy walked away, and I was grateful, but then Hermione walked back in, without Neville this time. She said something about us changing into our robes because we were getting close to Hogwarts. Sure enough, when I looked out of the window, I saw that we were slowing down. I quickly changed into my robes, and we soon arrived at Hogwarts.

When we got out of the train, a giant man, who according to Harry was named Hagrid, called us first years over to him. We traveled to a lake, and Hagrid boredered us all on boats.

I got stuck on one with the white haired boy, and two other boys who looked very menacing. The white haired boy introduced himself as Draco Malfoy, and his two friends as Crabbe and Goyle. Then I introduced myself for about the fourth time that day. Draco said that he remembered me sitting in the compartment with Harry, and that I looked bored, which was true. I was bored because everyone had been talking about how famous Harry was, and it seemed that everyone had been practicaly ignoring me. I hate being ignored, but it didn't seem as if Draco wanted to ignore me. In fact he looked at me apreciatley. There was something inside me that told me to keep my mouth shut about being Muggle-born, so I did.
