I hurried to the beach where I had arranged to meet Jane and Alec. The murmur of the sea sounded in the distance. I came to the top of the highest dune. On the beach, sat a lonely figure. I could already see that it was Alec. I ran down the dune and sat beside him.
"Where is Jane?" I asked him.
"Sick" he replied.
Alec and Jane were my best and only friends. I always had a little crush on Alec but he saw me as an ordinary friend. We sat awhile in silence together. Alec and I were more the quiet types. Usually Jane talked for three.
"Alec? Can you promise me something?" Alec shifted his attention to me.
"Never leave me. And if there's really no other way, tell me before you leave. " There was a moment of silence.
"I promise." He finally said. I laid my head on his shoulder and together we watched the sunset.
It was already dark. Most people were already inside. Alec and I walked across the small dirt road that led to my house. We stopped for the door. Alec scratched the back of his neck.
"I'd like to give something before you go inside." He said.
I Turned to him as he Reached for his pocket and fired out a bracelet attached with little wooden figures.
"It's yours. It will bring you luck." he said.
"Thanks." I smiled.
I took the bracelet and looked in his eyes. Those beautiful green eyes.
Alec leaned toward me and pressed a gentle kiss on my lips. It took only two seconds but it was the best two seconds of my life.
"I'll see you later" he said quietly and began walking down the dirt road.
It took me a while before i got back my voice.
"Bye! And say hello to Jane!" I shouted after him. I continued looking at him until I saw him no more. I turned and walked into the warm room.
That's the last time I saw him.
