Chapter 1

How to draw better

by: Carrie_
These are my tips to you...

What I would suggest is to draw something simple. For example, a butterfly. Draw it from memory and you don't have to make it complicated.

Like this:

Once you got that down, take it to the next step:

Add details

You can either add more designs (realistic) or change the shape or whatever you want to your butterfly.

Like so:

The next thing I would do is find a picture of a butterfly (or whatever image you want to draw) and draw it with it in front of you. It always helps me to have something in front of me when I draw so I could get the right shape, shading, and all that jazz.

Like this:

^this was for an art project I'm doing and I decided to draw a butterfly for it. We're making nature masks out of clay and nature object is well, a butterfly.

Take your time with drawing. A masterpiece doesn't just happen over night. It takes time, effort, and detail.

I'm more of a realistic drawer so its easier for me to draw real life objects. If you really tried to draw something realistic, try a different art style. Try drawing designs only using geometric shapes. Piet Mondrian is a famous artist for using squares. Take a look:
Example 1:
Example 2:

They don't have to look complicated as long as you try.

Another art style you can do is impressionism. What this means is just painting with no detail and using bright colors. A famous artist you may heard of in this category is Claude Monet. His artwork is really beautiful.

One of my favorite art styles is doing zentangles. It is really fun and everyone of all ages can do it. What it is is a series of lines and designs. You can make it whatever you want. Its fun, relaxing, and the creativity just flows out of you. If you make a zentangle, I suggest you just draw and don't think about the final result. It just ruins the fun.
Better example:

Yeah, so I hope these helped. I really do want you to be a better artist. I know you have the potential to draw but if you want to get better, just take your time. You can't rush art and its something you have to practice. If you're interested, don't be afraid to ask for tips from your art teacher or someone who is really talented in art. Also, don't be afraid to look up tutorials on how to draw. That is what I do from time to time and I really improved. So, I hope you learned a few things and I wish you good luck! I know you can do it and I know you will do it. You might be be successful today, or tomorrow, but you will. You can't give up. You never know what you might create if you stop trying. Take your time and most importantly, have fun. Art is not supposed to be a stressful thing although I know most of you hate art or think you can't do it but once you just learn to let go and just draw, it's going to be a stress reliever. I personally love art because its something I can express myself with and because I can draw whatever the hell I want. Lol. There is no limit to what you can do.

Inspire. Dream. Create.
