Why We Write

I've been thinking about this lately, and I thought I'd share it with you all.

Chapter 1

The One and Only Chapter

Why do we write? Is it to 'tell a story', like most people say? I, for one, think that answer is utterly boring. That answer is like saying 'why do we live?' 'to breathe.'
That answer is like 'why do we sing?' 'to exercise your voice.'

What I have decided is this: We write novels so that we can read the book we've been wanting to read. We write songs so we can listen to the songs that we haven't been able to find. We write poetry so we can... well, poetry is complicated. Forget poetry. It's too complex. xD.

I say we, but maybe I mean 'I'. There are probably plenty of people who write to make money. -_-. There are probably people out there who actually write just to tell a story (I can tell, because I fall asleep halfway through chapter 1).

I can't seem to find a decent book to read. Everything on the shelves is lacking that certain quality which I inhale like air, and about as quickly too. Nobody is writing novels that speak to me. So what do I do? Yeah, I could complain. I am complaining. But other than that? I can't find the book I'm looking for, so I write the book I'm looking for. Maybe the book you can't seem to find hasn't been written yet. Maybe you have to write it. Do you get what I'm saying here?

I decided to put this on quibblo after I walked my dog and was singing randomly made-up lyrics (and ignoring people who stared... xD). I knew what kind of music I wanted to listen to. I got home, opened itunes, and it wasn't there. I sighed, and thought maybe I should write the songs I'm looking for. I decided not to listen to any music after all, or I'd forget all the random stuff I was singing on the dog walk.

...So that's (at least a part of) why people write, or why I write. Do you agree? Disagree? Why do you write? Comments, people!
