Rule Number One Of A Heartbreaker

Chapter 1

"Rule Number One is that you gotta have fun"

We're all familiar with the Marina and the Diamonds song "How To Be A Heartbreaker," yes? In this song, four rules are stated, and while they are important rules, they are not the only ones. However, we shall start with these rules.

Rule Number One: Have fun! There's no point in getting into toxic relationships if you don't have a little fun.

Now, here's where you have to be careful. By "have fun," I do not mean "mess with the poor guy/gal's head." I mean have fun with them. Let them think whatever they want about this fun. If they think it means that you're gonna last, well, good for them. It's just a bit of fun for you.

An upside to a toxic relationship is that you don't have to worry about it ending. You don't have to constantly be on your guard, worrying that you might upset your partner and they might break up with you. Because you know it's going to happen anyway! And while you'd prefer to be the one to end it, you don't have to be. In fact, if they end it, they think they're more in control, which makes them ever more likely to think it's acceptable to come running right on back to you.
