Chapter 1

How Can I Cheat

"You're cheating." the man with alcohol in his breath and yellow teeth says.

"How could I possibly be cheating?" I ask, flashing one of my famous "I'm innocent" smiles.

"I don't know, but you are." the man insists, scratching his unkempt brown beard that is starting to show some gray hairs.

"I'm not cheating. I feel offended that you should accuse me of such a crime. I would like to collect the money I earned and leave." I say.

"You're not leaving until I figure out how you're cheating." the man insists, his breath nearly making me barf.

I sigh as a typical day of poker happens for me. I am pretty young to be playing poker. Very young, in fact. Actually I'm under aged. I'm a 10 year-old girl. I almost always win in cards so I'm pretty much rich and everyone tends to think I cheat.

I look up and notice the man that I was playing poker with pacing, probably trying to figure out how I am cheating. I widen my eyes and pretend to be confused.

"I still don't understand how you can think I am cheating?" I say as innocently as possible.

"I am nearly undefeated in poker, but then you come along and beat me 3 times in a row!" he yells.

"Look you've obviously been drinking. I say we let this go and both move on. You're probably just off your game." I say calmly.

He growls at me and his eyes narrow and I see it is really time to get going. I get up, grab my chips, and walk to the house. I turn in my chips for my money. Grabbing my money I run out of there and back to my house. Slowly I go to bed.

I awaken to the sound of banging on my door. I sit up in my bed, guessing it was probably the police. I get dressed in a pair of simple jeans and a black shirt and come to the door.

I open it and say, "Hello officer, how can I help you?"

"Hello Ms., I was wondering if you were Sandy Johnson?"

"Yes, I am." I say.

"I have been given an anonymous tip that you are an under aged poker player. Is that true?" the officer asks.

"No, sir, it's not. I'm sorry that I couldn't help you with that, but I do believe I could help you out with something else." I say, know exactly who told the officer about me.

"Oh yeah? What might that be?" he asks.

"Down on the peer, in the bait house, there is a poker player. That isn't his only job though. He also terrorizes people into giving him money. I'm, in fact, one of them. Please stop him, oh and if you get him don't tell him that I told you." I say.

"Oh okay. Thank you, Mam." the officer says.

He walks off, probably to go get the man from last night and take him to jail. I smile glad I could get rid of a criminal while playing poker.
