Bella and Cissy

I had the sudden urge to write about Bellatrix and Narcissa. Here you are!

Chapter 2

The Journey

"Here it is, Platform 9 and 3/4," Bellatrix said proudly, throwing her hands into the air. Narcissa looked awed; she ran forward to get a better look at the Hogwarts Express.
"Bellatrix?" Druella Black asked, putting her hand on her eldest daughter's shoulder. "I trust you'll take care of your sister. Comfort her if she gets homesick, make sure she writes me at least once every week, et cetera."
"Yes, Mother," Bellatrix said crossly. She'd always been asked to look after Cissy; it was understandable when Cissy was a baby, but now? She was eleven, and she'd be turning twelve in less than a year's time!
"Good." Druella stepped calmly forward to say her goodbyes to Narcissa and Andromeda. Bellatrix heaved her trunk onto the Hogwarts Express and boarded the train. Seconds after she sat down in an empty compartment, the door slid open and Rodolphus Lestrange slipped in.
"Hello, Bellatrix," he said pleasantly, sidling over to sit down beside her. "Fancy seeing you here."
"Go away."
"Be nice to me, Bella, or I'll tell your mother where you were last night."
"Don't call me Bella."
Rodolphus smiled. "I'll call you whatever I want to. You're under my power, after all."
"Under your power?" she exclaimed. She whipped out her wand and pointed it at his chest. "I don't think so."
"You wouldn't dare hex me," he replied. "We're not allowed to do magic outside school." He leaned back on the compartment bench, completely at ease.
"You're infuriating," Bellatrix muttered, stowing her wand back in her pocket.
"I try." Rodolphus shot her his most winning smile.
Before Bellatrix could respond, Alecto and Amycus Carrow barged into the compartment. "Have either of you seen Narcissa?" she asked.
"She's with Lucius Malfoy," Alecto said, shrugging. She immediately went on a rant about Muggles and how burdensome they were; Bellatrix sat in the corner of the compartment, her insides boiling.
Lucius and Narcissa joined them after the five-minute warning whistle had sounded. They sat across from Bellatrix, hands locked together. Inseparable. It didn't help that Rodolphus Lestrange was sitting next to her, prodding her in the side every two seconds.
"Cissy's in love," he said teasingly, as the Hogwarts Express lurched out of the station and began speeding along the track. "Narcissa Malfoy. How does that sound, Bella?"
"Shut up," Bellatrix muttered, resting her forehead on the windowpane and trying to ignore her sister, who was making goo-goo eyes at Lucius.
Eventually, the stooped little witch with her crooked trolley stopped outside their compartment and offered them sweets. Lucius bought Narcissa a box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, which they shared. Rodolphus handed Bella a licorice wand, which she jabbed him in the throat with and then handed to Alecto, who gobbled it up faster than you could say "firewhiskey."
Hours later, they were instructed to change into their school robes. A few minutes after they had done so, the train pulled up outside Hogsmeade Station and began to belch students out onto the platform.
Bellatrix grabbed her trunk and loaded it onto one of the carriages; Narcissa was herded, along with the other first years, onto a boat tethered to a stake at the edge of the lake. To Bella's dismay, both Lucius and Rodolphus accompanied her into the carriage; they'd been separated from Alecto and Amycus on the platform.
"Excited to be back at school?" Rodolphus asked, nudging her knee with his.
"Very," she replied sarcastically, nudging him back harder than was necessary.
Once they had made it to Hogwarts's oaken front doors, they hopped out of the carriages; their trunks would be delivered to their dormitories while they were eating dinner.
Bellatrix, Rodolphus, and Lucius trooped into the Great Hall and took their places at the Slytherin table. Almost immediately, the first years were ushered into the Hall by a strict-looking woman in a pointed witch's hat. Narcissa was at the front of the group, and was also one of the first to be called to the Sorting stool.
"Black, Narcissa," the woman said loudly, and Cissy mounted the steps to the stool. Many of the professors seated at the staff table smiled warmly down at her, but this seemed to frighten her even more. Bellatrix saw her shoot Lucius a glance, and he gave her a reassuring nod.
"Slytherin!" the Sorting Hat yelled, seconds after the woman had placed it on Cissy's head. Bellatrix clapped enthusiastically along with everyone else, but she wasn't surprised; every single Black before her and her sisters had been Sorted into Slytherin.
After the Sorting, the headmistress gave her signature welcoming speech and plates of food appeared on every House table. Narcissa's eyes went wide, and she began piling her dish with everything within reach.
After the welcoming feast, the students were directed to their common rooms. Bellatrix exchanged a few words with Narcissa and headed straight to the fifth year girls' dormitory, eager to get away from Rodolphus and Lucius. As she lay in bed, she couldn't help but wonder just what exactly was in store for her this year.
