My Kind of Normal (sequel to Being a Villain and the Fun of Ruining It)
Does anyone remember "Being a Villain and the Fun of Ruining It"? Well, this is the sequel. It's about me and two of my best friends, Soul and Highlight. Fred and BK are owned by them, and I stole Yumi from a computer game.
This is about our fourth year at Hogwarts. Most of this stuff is totally probable and undeniably (mostly) true.
This is fanfiction. I don't own any of the fandoms in this story unless I specifically state otherwise.
This is for Soul and Highlight - love you girls!
The Imaginaries' Dilemma (Part I)
I let out a sigh and slumped onto one of the couches in the Gryffindor common room. I closed my eyes for a moment, taking in the oh-so-rare sound of silence while inhaling the couch's familiar mixed scent of candy, failed potions, perfume, sweaty boys, and even more failed potions. A small smile graced my face as I realized how much h*ll these poor couches had probably had to go through during the many years of Hogwarts. And while I could complain all that I wanted about the other students' misuse of the couches, a knew that a great deal of the poor couches' stress was probably my fault.
While I wasn't exactly a bad student, per say, I did do my part in raising mischief and mayhem at the merry school of Hogwarts. You see, I had two rings that I was known to hang out with. The first (and less deadly) of these groups of friends were a ginger pair known as the Weasley twins. While we had lots of fun with spells you should not perform on fellow students, a dastardly overuse of fireworks, and classic pranks like the water pail above the door, the three of us were not half as scary as my other group of friends.
Soul was a brunette Slytherin. She had a passion for mayhem, music, and kicking her imaginary squirrel Fred in the butt. Highlight was a blonde Ravenclaw (and the only one of the group who actually thought more than three steps before doing anything). She loved reading, writing, watching Dr. Who, and smacking her imaginary cat Barn Kitty (also known as both BK and Benjamin Kitty) with a Frying Pan of Doom, or FPoD. And lastly, there was me. I'm Jen, I'm a Gryffindor who enjoys literature, video-making, and battling with my imaginary friend who I picked up from a computer game, Yumi. Soul, Highlight, and I were an unlikely trio, being from different Houses and all, but when we met in the First Year, we knew that we would be best friends for life.
And Hogwarts has never had a moment of peace since.
For once in the four-year history of my life at Hogwarts, I had the common room all to myself. It was nice to have a time like this to just relax and reminisce about old times. I remembered when I first met my friends. All that Highlight could do was talk about her favourite Ted Dekker books, and ramble on about her newest story ideas. Soul was fully involved in her Pokemon and Legend of Zelda obsession back then (and pretty much still was). She'd even had to tell me who Link was. Fred and George had been a bit older than us girls when I'd first met them. The thirteen-year-olds had been just as funny and mischievous back in the day as they were now. They'd been the ones to help me get around the first week or so of school. They had been like the big brothers I'd never had. Soul and Highlight had been like the sisters my age that I'd never had. Honestly, I loved all of them.
I opened my eyes and sat up on the couch. Once in a while, feelings of extreme thankfulness for my friends would just hit me like, BOOM. Right now was just one of those moments.
"Hey, where's everyone else?"
The Japanese-accented voice caused me to turn my head to the right. "Hey, Yumi," My Imaginary was sitting next to me on the couch. Her dark brown hair was styled into a perfect-looking bun, and a pink bow was clipped to the side of her bangs. She was wearing a long, hot pink T-shirt and a pair of neon pink leggings, offset by a pair of knee-length black boots and a black armband. I know that this sounds like a total diva outfit, but honestly, it was way toned down compared to how Yumi normally dressed.
Yumi let out a huff and rolled her slightly-slanted eyes. "You didn't answer my question, Jen. If I must be more specific with you, where are the gingers? And if they aren't here, where are your frying pan-crazed friends?"
I chuckled lightly at Yumi's definition of my friends. "Well, I just left the girls from classes. As for the boys," I pursed my lips slightly in thought. Actually, other than breakfast and lunch today, I really hadn't seen much of Fred and George at all. "I don't know where they are either."
"That's surprising," Yumi quipped, giving me a teasing look. "I'm surprised that you don't even know where your beloved Fredweird is."
A small frown, as well as a light blush, overtook my face. "Fredweird is what we call the squirrel, remember?"
Yumi shook her finger at me. "Ah, ah, ah," A sparkle appeared in her eyes, and she continued, "You know exactly who I'm talking about."
Yes, it was true, I did know exactly who Yumi was talking about. For pretty much the entire time I'd been at Hogwarts, Fred Weasley had not only been a best friend of mine, but he'd also been my crush. Yes, it was true. And for whatever reason, Yumi knew about this crush. But let's not focus on the negative, now.
I rolled my eyes with a smile. "I'm not a stalker, Yumi. Everyone has to live their own private lives, you know."
Yumi totally didn't believe me. "I don't think-"
Thankfully, Yumi was cut off by a certain grey fluffball who poofed into the room.
"Yumi!" BK's breathing was heavy, and the tomcat's feline eyes were darting around the common room. "We have an emergency."
Yumi immediately sat up, her attention turned onto her partner-in-crime. "What's wrong, BK?" Wow. She didn't even call him the name he hated the most, 'BaKi'. This had to mean that something was up.
"Something is wrong; very wrong." BK turned his gaze to me, as if suddenly realizing that I was in the room, too. "We have a kidnapping on our paws."
"Um, BK," I arched an eyebrow. "You're the only one in here with paws."
But the Imaginary hadn't even heard my words. Instead, he was looking to Yumi for an answer.
An answer which she immediately gave. Yumi gasped, saying, "Who's been taken?"
BK's furry face stayed stoic and serious. "Fred."
My heart immediately lurched in my chest. I'm sure Yumi's did at the same time, because at the same time, the both of us yelled, "No way!"
BK nodded. "Our cohort is gone. And MIA with him is Snape."
My eyes widened. Great, so first, our rodent frenemy was gone, and now my Potions professor had vanished? Well, as I thought about it, the fact actually made sense. Ever since the two had met, Fred the squirrel and Severus Snape had formed a very strange friendship. No one would have expected that the hyper, poptart-eating Fred and the serious, seemingly-evil Potions master would end up being BFFs. But against the forces of logic, they had. And now they were gone.
"This is serious." Yumi said. Was it my imagination, or was that genuine concern in her dark brown eyes? "We have to find him now."
For once, I whole-heartedly agreed with Yumi. Even though Fred was practically one of my worst enemies, he was still a cute, adorable, loveable little squirrel! If I didn't help Yumi and BK save him, I'd be just heartless (that and Yumi would undoubtedly hate me forever). We had to find Fred.
"Oi, what are you two evil beings doing in here?"
"And with Jen, no less."
"Are you turning your back on us, Jen?"
I stood up from the couch. "Twins," I said, an uncharacteristically serious look etched on my face. "Fred's missing."
The gingers both raised their eyebrows.
"Uh, Jen?" George gave me a strange look. "He's standing right here."
I shook my head. "No, not that Fred, the other Fred."
The twins just stared at me.
I sighed. "The squirrel?"
"Oh," the obviously not-too-bright twins chorused, finally understanding what I meant.
I nodded. "BK reported that he, along with Professor Snape, has been kidnapped." From across the room, I heard BK mewl a confirmation of that statement.
"That is serious." Fred said.
"But Jen," George frowned. "Aren't you supposed to be glad that Fred's gone? After all, he does nothing but terrorize your life."
"Hey!" The human Fred mock-glared at his brother.
For once, I didn't join in with George in the we-know-two-people-named-Fred-so-let's-bug-them-ab out-it game.
In a suddenly more serious voice, Fred asked, "Have you told the other two about it?"
"Soul and Highlight should be able to help." George nodded his head.
"Oh, yeah!" I turned around quickly, causing my medium-length blonde hair to whip around with me. "BK, did you tell Highlight about this?"
The grey cat shook his head. "I can go get her now." He mewed.
Wow, BK was actually offering to help. I decided to take a hold of this once-in-a-lifetime chance. "Okay, BK," I said. "You tell Highlight. Yumi, you come with me and the twins. We'll tell Soul what's up. Well," I looked over at the twins. "Assuming that you want to help."
"Are you kidding?" Fred asked.
"We wouldn't miss a chance like this for the world." George said.
A light smile lit up my face. "Thanks, guys," I said.
"Let's do this thing." BK immediately poofed away in a cloud of glitter.
"For Fred," Yumi's solemn tone was kind of hard to believe, what with her insane apparel that flashed at me and the twins as she walked up to us.
I nodded my head. "For Fred."
Author's Note: How is the comeback so far, my friends? I know that I haven't finished Being a Villain yet, but I wrote this for Soul recently, and we decided that it simply MUST go on!
