Chapter 1

Celeste Dixon

I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock. I felt around on my side table until I found the clock and I slammed my hand on the snooze button. Then my phone started buzzing; I had gotten a text. I hit the select button and my phone read the text out loud, "Hey, Ace. Meet me and the guys at our usual spot. From Katerina."

My Uncle Jack has bought me a special phone that read my texts aloud and told me who they were from, since I was blind and couldn't read them. I had been blind for a little less than a month and I was okay with not being able to see. I could navagate through places that I was familiar with like my house, my high school, several stores, and the woods (where our meeting place was). My best friends, Ozzy, Katerina, and Bryon, try to avoid talking about seeing things or sayin the word eyes. They think I'm some fragile little sole that will wallow in self pity. Even when I make jokes about being blind, they all stop talking.

People always ask me, "how do you know that your clothes match?" Well, my entire wardrobe consists of band t-shirts and jeans, so you really can't go wrong.

So anyway, I took a shower and then got dressed in jeans, combat boots, and I'm pretty should that I picked out an Aerosmith tshirt. Then I walked out of the house and made my way to the woods.

You actually wouldn't be able to tell that I was blind unless you saw my unmoving eyes. I didn't have a cane or a seeing eye dog cause I didn't need any of that stuff. I could take care of myself.

Ever since I lost my sight, my other senses were a Amazing awesome. So when I arrived at the big oak tree that my friends and I hung out at, I knew that someone was there. I could hear their heart beat and their breathing. And I knew that the person was a female because when she exhaled, the sound of her exhaling was higher pitched.

I smiled in the direction of the person, "Hey Katerina!"

"Hey Ace!" I heard her voice and the crunch of leaves as she approached me.

"Where are the guys?" I asked her.

I heard the sound of the clothes slightly moving watch I indicated as a shrug, "you know them, always fashionably late. They should be hear soon."

Katerina, Ozzy, Bryan and I had been friends since we were little kids. I met Katerina when I was three, Bryan when I was four, and then I met Ozzy a couple months after Bryan.

We were drawn together because each of us had a special power. My power was controlling the elements. And we have never told a living sole about our powers and none of us planned too.

I heard someone else enter the clearing, I heard the person inhale, as if he was about to speak. "Wait," I said before he spoke, "Ozzy?"

The person started to laugh and I immediately know that it was Bryan, "Better luck next time, Ace."

Not only did I know my friends' voices and breathing, but I also knew who they were by their skin. Katerina's skin was smooth and soft, Ozzy's skin was tougher than Katerina's and a little colder and Bryan's skin was warm and smooth.

"Okay," I said, "Let me try again."

I reached out my hand to touch a tough, cool arm. I smiled, "Ozzy, when did you get here?"

"Just a few seconds ago." I could hear the smile in his voice.

I walked over to where I assumed the big oak tree was and I effortlessly climbed the tree. Then I made myself at home on one of the branches and soon my friends joined me.

"Your ability to climb things without seeing amazes me." Katerina said while giggling.

I smiled, "yeah. So what are we gonna do today? See a movie?"

"Um...." byran began, "How are you gonna watch it?"

I shrugged and laughed slightly, "I'll use my imagination. So how about it?"

Everyone agreed, but before we we headed to the theater, we decided to talk a bit about school and stuff.
