Chapter 1

The Mull of Kintyre

I'll admit, based on Paul but this was for Dizzy_Miss_Lizzie so...

The warm early morning light broke through the window as I heard the rooster call. My eyes slowly opened and I moved my reddish-blonde hair out of my face. As I slowly turned over I looked at my husband who was still snoring next to me. His dark brown hair was a mess, and he was hogging the blanket, as usual. I crawled closer to his and snuggled into his chest, his beard tickled my face and I giggled a bit. After my little chortle, his eyes drifted open and gazed down at me. I loved his eyes’ they were so beautiful; the perfect mixture of brown, gold and green. They were so immense and lined with thick, dark lashes, I could just look at them all day.
“Well good morning luv” he said softly as he smiled.
“Good morning” I grinned as I wrapped the blanket a little tighter around the two of us.
“Sleep well?”
“Yes. And you?”
“Very well” he said and placed a kiss on my forehead before he rolled out of bed.
He walked over to the large bay window adjacent to the bed and drew the curtains back, letting the sun pour in even more. He stretched his arms and let out a moan as he looked over the yard. I wrapped the quilt around me and stood next to him as he admired the view. The lush, almost velvet looking green grass, the slight haze that hung around as the sun crept over the horizon. The cows and chickens wandered the yard and occasionally a rooster would call, it was such a serene sight.
He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me closer, and I rested my head on his bare chest. He placed his chin on my head and kissed the top of my head.
“Let’s get a cuppa” he suggested after we watched the sunrise for a bit.
“Sure” I agreed and we lazily wandered into the kitchen.
We tip toed down the hall, trying not to make a sound. I popped my head inside the baby’s room. She slept soundly and let out a gentle coo. I smiled and continued to the kitchen.
I put the kettle on as he took some biscuits from the cupboard, and some fresh milk from the refrigerator. We sat at the table as we waited for the tea to heat, he reached across the table and took me hand.
“I love you, you know that?”
“I do, and I love you too” I smiled and leaned across to give him a peck on the lips. The table creaked and more musty pine sent was released into the air. The linoleum on the floor was dusty from all the dirt that came in from outside, and the faucet leaked a bit. The farm was old but it was perfect for us, the baby and the animals.
“Let’s take the horses out today” I said
“That would be nice” he smiled back at me.
The tea started to whistle, and as it did, our big sheepdog barreled into the kitchen and right onto his lap.
“Well ello Martha, good morning to you too” he said as he rubbed her ears.
I poured tea into our mugs and set them on the table. All the noise must have woken the baby, and she started to cry.
“I’ll get her” I said and walked into her room.
“What’s wrong my love?” I asked as I scooped her out of her crib. I cradled her in my arms and she soothed.
“That’s my girl” is smiled and took her into the kitchen.
“How’s my beautiful girl this morning?” he asked as he looked at her daughter.
“Just fine”
“She’s so pretty, just like her mum” he smiled up at her.
“And she’s got her dad’s eyes”
I stood by the window in the kitchen that over looked the stable, I showed our daughter the horses that were grazing in the field.
“Look Mary! Horses!”
he came from behind me and put his hand on my back and grinned down at the two of us.
“I love you Lizzie”
“I love you too Paul” I said before he gave me another kiss.
