Today I watched a last part of a document series.

This matter has made me inspired to make many quizzes, but it also makes me sad and angry. It is document series made by Ville Haapasalo, and it tells about Finno-Ugric people in Russia.

Chapter 1

There is nothing that can be done.

Many Finnish people dislike Russians. Some seriously, especially old people, and some not so seriously, more like jokingly, some because stereotype of Russian people, Mostly because of Winterwar, to be fought between Finns and Russians in time of second world war, in which Russia attacked Finland and claimed seriously that it was Finns who attacked. I just got to know that it's not part of history in Russia. But that's not what bugs me, i generally have nothing against Russians. I've met some here in Finland, and most of them have been nice. Not women so much, though, but men mostly. But there is something, that makes me dislike them. In Russia, there live people, who are claimed to be relatives of Finns and Estonians. Relatives or not, it amazes me how they are treated. They were the original native inhabitants of Russia, before the homicides. There still is some of them left. This is something that is not allowed to speak about in Russia. Russians living in Moscow don't know that they exist. In Russia, in modern day, it's possible to be beaten up, or killed, if you write something that is not allowed to talk about. These minorities in Russia are losing their culture, and it's not their fault. They are not allowed to study in their native language in school. still some centuries ago, they were not allowed to even speak it, and gatherings and meetings were forbitten. Their making music in their native language is controlled by goverment. In their autonomous states, some of them have their language as one of official languages, with Russian. One is not able to use it in anywhere, though. They nowadays have Finno-Ugric meetings. Only Russian language is allowed, and gatherings are guarded. the topics can only be positive towards minority policy of goverment. In Russian tv, when Mari's are talked about, they are perceived as separatism supporters and even renegades, that should be taken care of. People of Finno-Ugric ethnicities are scared to speak about their ethnicity. Because of fear of how they will be treated after that. The kids of Finno-Ugric parents will be given a Russian name, Because They Will be bullied in school if not. There is few news papers, written in Finno-Ugric language, such as Mari, or Udmurt, but they are all the time in danger to be ceased. Obviously, because of negative presentation and impossibilities in usage, the languages and cultures going to extinct. I have even met Russians in internet who think that it's fine because they are so small in number. In the document series, Finno-ugric people, Komi's and Mari's etc, were constantly having phone calls before Ville talked with them. After that, even the tone of their voice chanced. They were forbitten to film certain matters. In one place one of their guides was Russian, who presented himself as Mari, and consistently forgot what he was supposed to tell. People were wery shy and anxious when Ville tried to speak with them. Obviously, Ville was worried what will happen to people who told anything negative to him. Many people rather take Russian identity, and present themself' as Russians, because it makes life easier. In the end of the series, played the Finnish song, that told about dying relationship, but it fitted well to these people. What could possibly be a reason that they are so small in number. It's estimated, that these etnicities will go extinct in century. This is what makes me sad, and angry. After one radio chabnel that played traditional Mari music, started to play a rap song in Mari language, it was instantly shut down. After the homicide of the Mari people, the Russians were unable to cover it up, and once media in abroad get to know about it, there was formed a foundation to support the rights of the Mari people. Obviously, after this, They were even more pressured. The wealth of the place is completely connected to the amount of how much people speak Russian. There is nothing that can be done, and this is what makes me angry or sad. What is someone non Russian would in public tell opinion about this? I just wish there were a way to help.
