Blinding Light

This poem is inspired by both a literal blinding light and a metaphorical one. At the time of writing a blinding headache was causing the light to hurt my eyes, but it's also about running away from guilt, and how that can drive you insane. I've always enjoyed how poetry can mean different things and create different pictures using just an assortment of words. Some of my favourite poets are Wilfred Owen and Patrick Kavanagh.

Chapter 1

Blinding Light

I'm being blinded by a light
One, it seems, I can't outrun.
Why does it have to be so bright?

Am I doing what is right?
When I think back to what I've done,
I'm being blinded by a light.

I feel as though my breathing's tight,
None of this is any fun.
Why does it have to be so bright?

I'm slowly sinking out of sight,
I've done no deeds for good, not one,
I'm being blinded by a light.

I try to hide with all of my might
But I cannot block out the sun.
I'm being blinded by a light,
Why does it have to be so bright?
