Chapter 9

Olive Omegadin

The next morning brought plenty of sunlight into the nearly empty train station, the light sparkled just slightly with tiny flecks of dust. I brought my stiff figure up from the floor, stretching my arms out and peering at my surroundings. All at once the memories flooded back, the Kolor Kids recent run, being taken by my 'brother', Kiari...

A sudden blur ran out from a corner at the opposite end of the room, seeming to run then disappear out the door and through a window. I blinked slowly mid-stretch, Did that really just... .

My answer came when Jeff peered into the room from the small hallway, " You saw that too, right? " Came his tired yet sexy voice. I nodded my head slowly as I managed to get to my feet, electricity still seemed to be circulating through my veins.

" Where's Kiari? " I ask leaning against the wall.

" She's still asleep. " Jeff responds plainly, a flash of anger in his eyes comes like Houdini. Appears then Disappears faster than what you can register. " C'mon, lets go to the others, you've had an... interesting night. " Coming over and practically picking me up, the balls of my feet leave the ground as he starts down the hall.

At first I enjoy it, it reminded me off how my dad would've carried me around a store or the park. Then I remember that my dads gone, never coming back, ever. A wallowed sob escapes me but I force myself to toughen up. Can't be a baby forever.

" Dude, put. Me. Down. " I ordered him, " Now. " Jeff looks down and smiles, though he puts me down instantly. Finally we reach the 'main' part of the train station. Molly, Melanie, and Saria sat around Kiari, whose deep breathing signals she's sound asleep. We dare not waken her, so creeping across the shifting floorboards, Jeff and I sit down next to those awake, but far enough to talk.

I stare gloomily down at Kiari, the wound on her bare leg barely bleeding now, but the bloody bandage seemed to glare menacingly. Though her hair was in a pony tail, her dirty blonde strands were flung all about her face, as if she had simply fallen in that spot and hadn't moved since.

This is all my fault.... If I'd have been more... The suddenness of the sneak attack crept into my mind, no matter how much more alert I could've been, it wouldn't have mattered. Even the best could've been sidelined in that attack.

No, I should've fought. Stayed with her as she ran my escape. Now that is something I would never forget, just getting out alive was the only thing on my mind. And when she told me to 'Go back to the hideout' , what ever happened to One for all and All for one? Damnit, I should've stayed..

As if reading my mind, Jeff laid a hand on my shoulder, " Its not your fault, it could've happened to anyone. " Saria and Molly nodded solemnly, I glanced over at Melanie's tear-stricken face, she made no movement of approval. But no movement of DISapproval either.

Kiari's arm moved slightly, at first I was imagining things, but then I saw it again. The others had noticed too, slowly but steadily, Kiari managed to bring herself up from the floor. Twisting, she cracked her back a bit, then turning to us and smiling to all.

" Hey, once my leg heals up a bit. What to go on another run? "
