A Glossary of S*xual/Romantic Orientations and Gender Identities (UPDATED 8-23-15)

Glossary

A

Ace: Slang term for asexuals.
Agender: Describes someone who lacks a gender.
Akoiromantic: Experiencing romantic attraction, but no desire for reciprocation. Also known as lithromantic. The opposite of cupioromantic.
Akoisexual: Experiencing s-xual attraction, but no desire for reciprocation. Also known as lithsexual. The opposite of cupiosexual.
Androfluid: The same as demifluid, but your amount of "male" changes.
Androgyne: Simultaneously male and female.
Androphilia: S*xually attracted to men or masculinity.
Aromantic: Lacking any romantic attraction to anyone.
Asexual: Lacking any s*xual attraction to anyone.

B

Bigender: Identifying as two genders, often male and female, tending to switch between the two.
Binary: Strictly male or strictly female.
Biphobia: Discrimination against bisexuals.
Biromantic: Romantically attracted to two or more genders.. (Note: This is not the same as panromantic)
Bisexual: S*xually attracted to two or more genders. (Note: This is not the same as pansexual)
Butchandrogyne: An androgyne who is more male than female. Also called butchandro.

C

Cisgender: Describes someone who identifies with the gender they were assigned with at birth.
Cissexual: A less common term for cisgender.
Con-noun: Improperly used pronouns. For example, if a DFAB transgender man prefers he/his/himself pronouns, she/her/herself pronouns used to refer to him would be considered con-nouns.
Cupioromantic: Experiencing no romantic attraction, desires a romantic relationship. The opposite of lithromantic.
Cupiosexual: Experiencing no s-xual attraction, but desires a s-xual relationship. The opposite of lithsexual.

D

Demifluid: A gender identity used to describe when one part of you is consistently one gender while the other part of you switches genders.
Demiromantic: Romantically attracted only if a strong bond is formed first.
Demisexual: S-xually attracted only if a strong bond is formed first.
DFAB: Designated Female At Birth.
DMAB: Designated Male At Birth.
D-ke: A homophobic slur meant to insult lesbians.

FAAB: An acronym for Female-Assigned At Birth.
Fagg🌕t: A homophobic slur meant to insult gays.
Femandrogyne: An androgyne who is more female than male. Also called femandro.

G

Gay: A term used to refer to homosexuals.
Genderfluid: Identifying as a mix of genders, fluctuating between them.
Genderqueer: An term for all non-binary gender identities. Some consider it offensive.
Gray-asexual: Rarely s*xually attracted to anyone.
Gray-romantic: Rarely romantically attracted to anyone.
Gynefluid: The same thing as demifluid, except your amount of "female" changes.
Gynephilia: S*xually attracted to women or femininity.

Heteroflexible: Attracted usually to the opposite gender, but occasionally attracted to other genders.
Heteroromantic: Romantically attracted to the opposite gender.
Heterosexual: S*xually attracted to the opposite gender.
Homoflexible: Attracted usually to the same gender, but occasionally attracted to other genders.
Homophobia: Discrimination against homosexuals.
Homoromantic: Romantically attracted to the same gender.
Homosexual: S*xually attracted to the same gender.

Intersex: Born with both female and male genitals.

Lesbian: A term used to refer to homosexual women.
LGBTQ: An acronym for Lesbian Gay Bi Transgender Questioning.
Lithromantic: Experiencing romantic attraction, but no desire for reciprocation. Also known as akoiromantic. The opposite of cupioromantic.
Lithsexual: Experiencing s-xual attraction, but no desire for reciprocation. Also known as akoisexual. The opposite of cupiosexual.

M

MAAB: An acronym for Male-Assigned At Birth.
MOGAI: A more inclusive term for the LGBTQ+ community: Marginalized Orientations, Genders And Intersex.

N

Non-binary: Not identifying as strictly male or female.

O

Omniromantic: Romantically attracted to all gender identities. Also referred to as panromantic.
Omnisexual: S*xually attracted to all gender identities. Also referred to as pansexual.

P

Panromantic: Romantically attracted to all gender identities. Also referred to as omniromantic. (Note: This is not the same as biromantic.)
Pansexual: S*xually attracted to all gender identities. Also referred to as omnisexual. (Note: This is not the same as bisexual.)
Polyamorous: Having several s*xual/romantic relationships at once, with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved.
Polyromantic: Romantically attracted to several, but not all, gender identities.
Polysexual: S*xually attracted to several, but not all, gender identities.

Q

Queer: An umbrella term for non-heterosexuals and non-binary gender identities. It is a slur that can be reclaimed by both trans people and people who experience same-gender attraction to any degree.
Questioning: A term that refers to those who are still unsure what their s*xual/romantic orientation is.
QUILTBAG: An extended version of the LGBT acronym. Stands for Questioning Undecided Intersex Lesbian Transgender Bisexual As*xual Gay.
Quoiromantic: Unable to distinguish between platonic and romantic attraction.

Skolioromantic: Romantically attracted to non-binary gender identities.
Skoliosexual: S*xually attracted to non-binary gender identities.

T

Tranny: A transphobic slur.
Transphobia: Discrimination against transgender/transsexual people.
Transgender: Identifying with a different gender than assigned with at birth.
Transsexual: A transgender who has had s*x-reassignment surgery.
