Sam's Blog

This is going to be my main thing here on Quibblo. I'll be writing a new post (hopefully) every day :D

Chapter 1

by: Blogger14
I took my little sister Carley to her first dentist appointment today. She was such a trooper! When we first got there, she was pretty nervous, but when I explained that this was both her first dentist visit and also my apprehension about leaving her alone, they were kind enough to let me be back there with her.

Which was good, because I don't know if I would have let her go back without me....

(I'm a little over protective of her, LOL)

In fact, I think I may have been more nervous than she was. After all, she got to watch one of her favorite movies (Frozen) on her own personal TV while I sat there like a nervous wreck! XP

She did so well! I could learn a thing or two from that brave little girl.

Going in, I had thought that the big chair and a stranger sticking all kinds of scary new things into her mouth would really scare her, but she did so well! The doc even has these cool scented gloves! Where was all this when I was a kid?

She wasn't too thrilled about the x-rays, but I don't blame her one bit. They stuck this little thingamajig into her mouth and used the camera thing on this huge arm that could pretty much go to whatever angle they needed. But then, they scurry away and come back like thirty seconds later!

Poor Carley's sitting there with this thing that almost doesn't fit in her mouth and they tell her not to move and they'll be right back. I felt so bad! I held her hand and talked to her, so it wasn't a major catastrophe, but still.

She wasn't too sure about the spinning brush thing, either. But they explained everything and assured her (and me!) that it wouldn't hurt. And they let her choose a flavor of toothpaste or something! How cool is that?

And then came the talk. He told me how we should have brought her in quite a while ago. He also asked me how long it had been since I my last check-up... I tried to dodge the question, but no such luck. (more on that in another post)

At first, I was embarrassed because I knew that my parents should have set an appointment for her earlier, but they insisted that she was still too young. I finally convinced them that it was time and they let me take her.

Doctor Lester told me that, as I had suspected, her first visit should have been around her first birthday "to familiarize her with the environment and get her used to it at a very young age" as well as to make sure all is well in that little mouth of hers! :)

But he said that she has very healthy teeth and to keep up the good work! Hooray for no cavities! :D

Overall, it went very well and I was very happy with how they showed her (and me, again!) everything before just diving in and they talked to her and were very gentle and didn't seem at all like they were in a rush. They treated us like people instead of just another patient, which made Sam very happy! :)

Between my parents and I, we've been able to stay in the habit of brushing and flossing her teeth every morning and every night, which has also helped me to remember! I'll admit, I'm not the best about that, but now she's the one reminding me!

I was so glad that her first visit was a good experience. It was more than I could have hoped for! Far better than mine :l (another story for another day)

Anyways, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed meeting little Carley!

Feel free to let me know your thoughts and if there's something you'd like to see in tomorrow's blog. I love hearing from my readers.
